  Close To The Edge, the track itself, is not so much a musical melange of surging psychedelia, funk, Byrds-influenced harmonies and a church organ, as the sound of falling through the universe. At this point it's worth remembering that this album was actually a massive hit pretty well everywhere, a sobering thought in these musically conservative times/5(K).

  Close to the Edge would make the Top Five on both sides of the Atlantic, dispatch Yes on the longest tour of their career so far and, if hindsight be the guide, launch the band on a downward swing that only disintegration, rebuilding, and a savage change of direction would cure.
